ODECEIXE
This unique village is located on the hills near one of the most beautiful beaches of Europe and takes place in 7 ‘wonders’ of Portugal – Praia de Odeceixe.
The village border on the north is drawn by river Ceixe, which lines the natural border between Algarve and Alentejo regions. If you cross the bridge – you’ll find yourself in the Alentejo.
Odeceixe at first can look like a round form village, but it is actually quite long, there are lots of space to walk. The character of streets and architecture changes depending on the village part.
Walking around the Odeceixe will bring a lot of fun if you dare to go various streets up and down the village, which are full of traditional Portuguese architecture. On one of the peaks stay the windmill, from where you can check amazing view on the surrounding area with valley and mill.
Odeceixe proposes a lot of accommodation in traditional style. There are various cafes and street product market every Sunday. A lot of pilgrims, who are walking the Way of Saint Vincent stopping here.
There is a short circular walk along Ceixe river valley (home to a variety of birds). Its also easy to walk to the beach from the village, it will take you around 40 minutes. It’s possible to walk from both sides of the river.
Beach of Odeceixe has a small river on the side and change its form depending on the tide. There are surf schools and a lot of surfers trying there best. Cafes and small shops making the beach look like a small cute site.
In winter season starting from October in the village and on the beach activity goes down and lots of restaurants close.
